"Yes. I will rock for you."

Available April 16 on Compact Disc: The debut album from Electric iLL "Twisted Light"
Five electric-soul tunes recorded in dolby stereo for music's finest listening experience.

The Oregonian ran a piece about new music businesses going about things a different way. They talked to me and Anita for a while. Got our perspective on what it's like. We shot straight.

 Faith Cathcart/The Oregonian

"Portland's becoming something of a center for new music business, a place where digital thinking and analog recording can casually get together to have a beer and exchange ideas. The Robinsons are one example."

Read the full piece here: In Portland, The New Music Business Includes The Musicians.

We appreciate being able to share our perspective in the new wilderness. Writers, feel free to get in contact anytime if you need a working musicians perspective, happy to share.

**MANOS**

I got a wild email from my friend Brian Koch. He's a killer drummer & plays with Blitzen Trapper.
Brian's production company is putting on a legit stage adaptation of the classic-gold MST3K stinker known as "MANOS" Hands Of Fate. The only reason Brian isn't playing drums in the live production is because, well, he is playing Torgo. If I just lost you there - that's okay, GO HERE for full description w/ cast & crew info.
Eric from Blitzen Trapper & Charlie from The Parson Redheads are playing with me. It will be insane. I promise. Shows are in April & tickets are available now. Hope to see you there - "Manos" will be done!

I've had a busy winter in the studio. Posting mixes here if yr curious what I've been up to. Tons of great bands in this town, I'm lucky to work with a lot of them.

Thanks, as always, for keeping us on your dial.
Cheers,

Feb.4th was Electric iLL's first (somewhat secret?) show at Bunk Bar. It was a success! Total rager! Chords were played with some correct distinction. Notes were sung with relative pitch and tone. Words were decipherable and actually heard properly. Ragen and I are going to play again soon. We had a blast!
We even have the courage now to announce shows properly.

I just (as in today) finished the final art for 'Twisted Light'. Electric iLL's first proper record.
Check it out:

Full album streaming right here. I'm going all 'chronic town' on this one. Five tunes. Short, sweet & right to the point. I think it's a good way to introduce yourself. Say hello. This is that.
Direct digital download will be available here in a few weeks. Available in March in stores in Portland, Or. Available April 16th on iTunes, Amazon, etc.. and we're sorting out details for wax presently.

Electric iLL is something I've been doing in my past time for a while. I'm really happy that it's finally starting to see a pinocchio-like transformation into a 'real' band. We even went and made a Tumblr site to keep up with. Oh, and I changed my name to Kaylee Rob. Surprise.

So, what's Anita been up to?

She's been busy with Calico Rose, that's what! I'll post her update so you can read it straight from the lady herself:

re: Calico Rose

2012 was an eventful and rewarding year for Calico Rose.  We played lots of shows and wrote lots of songs! We took part in the Robinson's residency at Al's Den, and recorded some tunes with John Moen on drums, Jesse Bates on Bass, and Kevin even played harmonica on "Write Home".

Calico Rose also took part in the recreation of the Band's 'Last Waltz' album with a stellar cast of musicians, and raised money to help artists have access to healthcare.

We then ended a whirlwind year of great collaborative performances by kicking off one rager of a New Year's Eve blast at our beloved Laurelthirst pub.

2013 is starting off great!
This Sunday - Feb. 10th we perform at the Alberta Rose Theatre as part of a 3-day bluegrass festival headlined by Jim Lauderdale.  We will be an acoustic trio for this show, and go on at 2pm this Sunday:
http://amorephonics.com/performances/

In addition to hosting a house party show May 31st, Calico Rose plans to host an event at Blackbird Farm's amazing ampitheatre, which is near completion!

But what we are most excited about this year is getting into the recording studio to make our first album!  We have compiled lots of original tunes and plan to have the whole thing in the can by this summer!
Kate, Annalisa and I have been working hard to craft strong original music that somehow manages to reflect our very different backgrounds (Alaskan Grass meets Alabama Country meets Detroit Rock City!) and we are proud of these songs.
We can't wait to share them with all of you.

We will keep you posted, thanks for the love and support.

Your Friend,

KING TARAHUMARA HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF

Halloween morning, Papi & I were working on a new track for the forthcoming King Tarahumara album. I'd stayed up the night before watching Hurricane Sandy hit New York. Many of our loved ones and dear friends were in its direct path. I was getting text updates and emails from them going through the worst of it. It was horrifying.
That morning as we got back to work on the faders, the futile sound of 'making records' was deafening. I couldn't hear anything else. We'd made a decision that whatever we did that morning, we would donate to assist in the hurricane relief efforts.
The result is "Sandy Plane". Enjoy:

Mastering was donated by the talented & ubiquitous TW Walsh. Video was donated by the mind peeling WolfGoreShow. We love these folks, please visit their links and support their art.

- Why $2?
INCLUDED WITH THIS DOWNLOAD IS A PRODUCERS PACK with truncated loops, beats, and samples from 'Sandy Plane'. If you are a producer, remixer, or beat maven - perhaps you'd like to make your own mix to spread the message, donate your own mix or raise money for the relief effort yourself? We wanted to make this possible for you, so we've included the key elements. All we ask is that you not sell anything you make for personal profit - use these sounds for others. That's the point.

- Where's the money go?
We make bi-weekly donations to redcross.org/hurricane-sandy from 'Sandy Plane' sales. If you're feeling generous and are able, we've made it possible for you to donate more than the $2 we're asking for the single. You can raise the price as much as you'd like to donate to Red Cross.

It's a drop in the bucket, but every drop counts.
Thanks for supporting the cause.
Rock Steady,

In June of this year The Robinsons had a week long residency at Al's Den here in Portland. It was epic. Our guests were spectacular every night. We asked Calico Rose to be our musical guests on June, 6th - a little foresight led me to believe we should multitrack the performance that night. It was a good call! Jeff from RecordingNW came down and set up the recording. Phillip from Ear Trumpet Labs was kind enough to lend the Edwinas for the vocal mics and the results speak for themselves.

They had guests John Moen on drums and Jesse Bates on bass. I got to play harmonica and vividly remember the hair on my arm standing up during this song. I couldn't wait to mix & share it. Such a great tune! This single is the first of the Al's Den performances by Calico Rose. No overdubs. No autotune. No digital manipulation or computer hoo-ha. This is how they sound live, and it's incredible.

Our new website is live, so - welcome! All our music is available here. Thanks!

p.s.

The camera-phone video above is the only vid that exists of the performance. Many thanks to Chantelle for having the foresight to document the night, and to our video editor DJ Snowtiger for putting it all together!

Anita and I have been writing and recording together for the last 15+ years. We made a collection of tunes from our first five years and called it 'Artifaktz'. These tunes display, with reckless abandon, what two kids can do with recording equipment.

We even made a special photo gallery for the release. True, we look and sound a lot different now, but it's nice to take a trip down sonic-memory lane & remember where you cut your musical teeth. However loud those teeth may be. The photo on the cover is Anita getting guitar sounds in 1997. She writes:

“This collection is a sampling of our first song collaborations and recording sessions, with home recordings paired right alongside professional studio sessions.   Our first efforts were ambitious, with a lot going on and a lot of attention to detail.  We were trying to capture lightning in a jar with every song, and hopefully the effect was accomplished. Whether we were using a 4-track, 8-track or were in a professional studio, we were brazenly and almost illogically confident in what we were doing.” - Anita

Glad to be able to share our musical past / present / and future with you.
Thanks for listening!

Live At KEXPPreviously a rare merch-table item, we're glad to make this little guy available! We recorded this live in 2003 after the 'Lovers, Lead The Way!' album sessions. The kind folks at KEXP in Seattle have always been incredibly supportive of our music & were sweet enough to multitrack our first time performing at their radio station.

Recorded live without overdubs (ie: really live) this EP contains interview clips and four songs from 'Lovers, Lead The Way!': 1. Wrecking Ball 2. That's Right, Watch Out! 3. Fashionably Lonely 4. Red D-Lish

Our studio pal & good friend Russ Fox from West Virginia mixed & mastered it. He also mixed 'Lovers, Lead The Way!' with me. Here's the note he sent me back in 2003:

Russ Note
What a guy.
Be careful what you send us folks, we keep everything.
Hope you guys enjoy the music - happy to be able to share it.
